A Kauai police officer was arrested while on duty Wednesday afternoon for abuse of a family or household member, Kauai police said.

Barry DeBlake, 51, of Lihue was taken into custody about 3:30 p.m. when officers responded to an incident at a Lihue residence that left a 29-year-old woman with non-life threatening injuries.

DeBlake, a detective who has been with KPD for 19 years, posted $1,000 bail.

He is currently on administrative leave with pay.
