U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono has cooked up a “Taste of Hawaii” event in Washington, D.C.

“I personally love going to other states’ taste-offs,” the Hawaii Democrat told The Hill.

The event will consist of a menu that includes kalua pig with cabbage, somen salad, Spam musabi, taro and sweet potato based snacks, Macadamia nut sweets, Island-grown gourmet coffee and, of course, booze.

“We want to feature the foods because that really grabs people,” says Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. 

The event is scheduled for July 23.

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz and U.S. Reps. Colleen Hanabusa and Tulsi Gabbard are also expected to attend.
