Stanley Chang is raising cash for the District 9 state Senate Seat.

Chang’s organization report says he’s a Democrat and his July-December filing says he has about $7,500 in cash on hand.

A former Honolulu City Council member, Chang ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Congress in 2014.

The District 9 seat represents a large area stretching from Hawaii Kai to Waialae, Kahala and Diamond Head.

The seat has been represented by Sam Slom for a number of years, the only Republican in the state Senate.

Chang, who has not formally filed to run for office this year, did not return a call Wednesday.

But he seems very interested in running, given that he has already spent money on things like surveys, polls and voter lists.
