Damaging Weather And Water: State House District 10 Candidate Q&As
Maui House seat primary draws three candidates.
Incumbent Tyson Miyake has represented State House District 10 on Maui since 2023 when he was appointed by Gov. Josh Green. Miyake is also the House Majority Whip and vice chair of the Housing Committee.
The district includes a portion of Waiehu, Paukukalo, Wailuku, Wailuku Heights, Waikapu and Hyashi Village.
He is facing Democratic opponent Ki’i Kaho’ohanohano in the Aug. 8 primary. The primary winner will run against Republican Travis Bumanglag, who is unopposed, in the general election.
The candidates were sent a survey by Civil Beat asking them to respond to questions about rebuilding Maui after the wildfires, Bill 9 and how they would address everyday cost of living issues in their community.
