Incumbent’s run for Senate opens up opportunity to represent vibrant urban and hillside communities.

The incumbent for State House District 21, Jackson Sayama — who has represented the area since 2020 — is running for State Senate District 10, which covers the same area. That’s opened up the election to a field of five Democratic candidates running in the Aug. 8 primary election.

State House District 21 includes the Honolulu communities of St. Louis Heights, Pālolo, Kaimukī, Wilhelmina Rise and Maunalani Heights.

All the registered candidates filled out a survey from Civil Beat, outlining their views on a range of topics including which issues are most important for the district, their legislative priorities and perspectives on government transparency.

Their responses where provided, are linked here in alphabetical order under their official ballot name, which you can also compare all in one spot on Civil Beat’s 2026 Hawaiʻi Primary Ballot.
