Akasha Rabut

Akasha Rabut is a photographer, artist and author. Her photography has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, TIME, Rolling Stone and Vogue, among others. She is the author of “Death Magick Abundance” (Anthology Editions, 2020), a photography book documenting life and culture in New Orleans. Her work is held in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Historic New Orleans Collection and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.

Raised between Kauaʻi and Southern California, Rabut is Filipina American and a third-generation descendant of Filipino plantation workers on Kauaʻi. She holds a BFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. She currently lives on Kauaʻi, where her work explores community, cultural memory and belonging.
