Kawai Hong was born and raised in Kaimukī and is a lifelong kanaka lawaiʻa, diver and conservationist committed to healthy reefs, responsible fishing and sustainable local food systems. He currently serves as the Fisheries Management Area Coordinator for Mālama Maunalua, where he works to support healthier fisheries and the long-term stewardship of Maunalua Bay.
