The U.S. senator hasn’t been raising much campaign cash. But she’s not up for election until 2018.

The Democratic primary pits Nadine Nakamura against Fern Anuenue Rosenstiel.

“Compliance with Kailua’s hard-fought zoning laws is key to retaining both our residential character and the integrity of our watershed and marine ecosystem.”

“I am a candidate of the people and would be very open to hearing from my community and advocating on their behalf.”

“I won’t give up on making sure that East Maui families have a place to call home.”

“I would support … satellite testimony so people from neighbor islands have the ability to connect with our legislators and testify on important matters.”

“As it stands now, only politicians in Hawaii can put initiatives on the ballot. If they can, the people should be able to, too.”

Democrats Stanley Chang and Mike Bennett face off in the primary for a shot at veteran Republican legislator Sam Slom.

“I will continue my efforts to fund a medical center in Puna, and for new libraries … I will continue to advocate for highway improvement, and better schools.”

Both campaigns accuse the other of being the first to go negative in the Honolulu mayoral election.
