“Legalize marijuana so the tax on it can pay public school teachers’ salaries. I think education is the only way we would be able to solve homelessness. And we in Hawaii deserve the best educators.”

“Hawaii doesn’t seem to do anything to manage its tourism. All it seems to have done is do everything to grow the industry, grow the numbers of visitors, the numbers of hotel reservations.”

Opponents of a constitutional convention want you to believe that empowering the people would be scary.

“I would support continuing the discussion on term limits for council members to 10 years total, regardless of consecutive terms, and placing this on the ballot for voters to decide.”

“It is imperative to keep agricultural land for our farmers, and not allow development projects that threaten the open space and prime agricultural lands.”

While they found some common ground at a candidates forum, the top contenders for the 1st Congressional District mostly disagreed.

“The most pressing underlying issue facing Molokai is the lack of notification, education, and information to help the public participate.”

“Though I serve all of Maui County, my district residency is Molokai. Molokai’s economic situation is our challenge. One of Molokai’s major employers closed and we have approximately 80 displaced workers.”

“My weekends will always still be spent in Blue Ginger Cafe talking over morning coffee as usual with the locals of the community.”

“I support development that reduces dependency on limited natural resources, and development with an end result that is not land speculation.”
