UPDATED: Hawaii has broken the state record for total number of ballots cast in a general election.

The state’s largest super PAC and business executives invested heavily in helping Rick Blangiardi beat Keith Amemiya to be Honolulu mayor.

Ballots can also be dropped off at drop boxes spread throughout the state and there are still in-person voting options.

Officials ask that voters mail ballots by Tuesday.

Facing a more than $1 billion deficit, Amemiya and Blangiardi say they don’t have enough information to map out the next steps to finish the project.

Eighteen other states will still accept a ballot if it’s postmarked by Election Day.

The proposal is among a package of bills the commission plans to push forward to the Legislature.

But Democratic Sen. Bennette Misalucha and GOP challenger Kelly Kitashima differ on how to diversify the economy and control the state’s budget.

The party has struggled for the past decade to gain a meaningful foothold in the islands. The rise of Donald Trump and the radical right has only made the situation more dire.

Seven proposed county charter amendments are on the ballot this fall.
