Sweeping Kakaako The city is planning to remove about two dozen homeless people from the Makai Gateway Park area next week. First, the notices go up days in advance.
Language Barrier Notices of the looming sweep are posted in several languages, including English, Marshallese and Chuukese, on the fence near Cooke and Ohe streets.

He Hasn't Gained a Pound Retired Navy First Mate Ray Morse is wearing the same uniform he wore 70 years ago aboard the USS Missouri when he watched Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Adm. Chester Nimitz accept the Japanese surrender ending World War II. Morse was 18 at the time. He lives in West Virginia now.
