A resolution that would let voters help chart the future course for the city Ocean Safety division has stalled in City Council chambers.

The complaint by legal short-term rental operators says the city is taking away their property rights.

Federal money helped pay for housing initiatives, job training and the Weed and Seed program.

City Council member Andria Tupola needs to reconsider her decision to let meaningful proposals go without even allowing public input.

The councilwoman hasn’t disclosed that she is getting paid by a candidate who would benefit from her legislation. 

The charter amendments need support from six of nine City Council members to be added to the November ballot.

The City Council passed a resolution requesting that HPD inform residents after doing warrantless searches when they’re away.

The bill, which passed 8-1, would raise the minimum booking period from 30 to 90 days. Opponents argued it unfairly favors the hotel industry.

The council chair said the city’s spending process is legally dubious and lacks transparency. The mayor said the chair is being “unreasonable.”

Andria Tupola said her intention was to get Covid-19 testing and vaccination resources to her community.
