Democrats face off in East Honolulu primary.

Incumbent representative Mark Hashem will run against Democratic candidate Kahi Pacarro in the Aug. 8 primary for State House District 19 in East Honolulu.

Hashem has been the representative there since 2010. The district includes Waiʻalae-Kahala, ʻĀina Haina, Niu Valley and Kuliʻouʻou.

Civil Beat sent both candidates a series of questions about what they saw as the legislative successes of the last session, how they would better prepare the district for major weather events and what ideas they have for diversifying the state’s economy.

Their answers, if provided, are linked below and all the survey responses from candidates can be compared all in one spot on Civil Beat’s 2026 Hawaiʻi Primary Ballot.
