More cases are occurring amongst those who have had two vaccine shots, officials said.

Cases are particularly high in Waimanalo and Waikiki on Oahu.

Private school enrollment rose to 33,540 as of Oct. 1, compared with 31,987 in 2020-21, according to the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.

In Hawaii, mental health providers say they’re only beginning to see the repercussions of forced social isolation and distance learning on young people.

Most of the patients were vaccinated, and most had no known connection to others who were infected.

Officials are investigating eight other suspected cases and urged residents who may be connected to “points of exposure” to get tested.

The patient was not vaccinated and had no history of out-of-state travel, indicating it’s a case of community transmission.

The state’s immunization registry has been down since early 2019. The new registry comes as a new variant is on the horizon.
