Board of Directors

Mike Mohr

Mike Mohr is the founder and chairman of Comprehensive Financial Management. He has served as a close advisor to Pierre and Pam Omidyar for many years and is director of Hawaii operations for The Omidyar Group. He also serves as a trustee, director and officer of a significant number of charitable organizations and commercial ventures.

Bill Coy

Bill Coy is the senior coach and action learning curator of the Omidyar Fellows program.
Prior to joining Hawaii Leadership Forum and the Omidyar Fellows program, Bill was a partner of La Piana Consulting and Director of Human Resources for the Catholic Diocese of Oakland and for Yosemite National Institutes, an environmental education organization. He also directed training and development for George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), a film special effects company, and was responsible for organizational and management development at both ILM and Skywalker Sound.

Originally trained as a cultural anthropologist, Bill holds graduate degrees in systematic theology and clinical counseling. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist, is also certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and has worked in organizational trauma recovery.

Patti Epler

Patti Epler is the Editor and General Manager of Civil Beat and a non-voting member of Civil Beat’s board of directors. She has been at Civil Beat since 2011 and its editor since 2012. Patti also sits on the board of the Civil Beat Law Center for the Public Interest. She’s been a reporter and editor for more than 40 years, primarily in Hawaii, Alaska, Washington and Arizona and is active in numerous national professional journalism organizations.


Pierre Omidyar

Pierre Omidyar is a philanthropist, technologist and innovator who is best known as the founder of eBay. A strong believer in the power of individuals and community, Pierre’s vision for Honolulu Civil Beat is to empower citizens and encourage greater civic participation through media. He believes that a strong democracy requires an engaged society supported by effective news reporting and analysis.

Pierre serves as the publisher of Honolulu Civil Beat. He is also the founder of First Look – a media and technology company dedicated to upholding and promoting the tenets of the First Amendment. Randy Ching

Randy Ching is a co-founder of Honolulu Civil Beat, and of UP2398, a venture capital firm fostering a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs. Randy spent eight years at eBay in a variety of leadership roles. Prior to eBay, he was a corporate attorney at Latham & Watkins and Cooley Godward. Born and raised in Honolulu, Randy graduated from Punahou School. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and has a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
